A JOB INTERVIEW

(Daniel has arranged an interview with Mr Nuthall, the owner of the Home Beauty Landscape Service).
Mr NUTHALL: (Shaking hands with Daniel) Good Morning, Mr Rangel. Nice to meet You.
DANIEL: Nice to meet you, too. Mr Nuthall.
NUTHALL: Sit down, please. Now, how about telling me why youre interested in working for us.
DANIEL: Well, I read your ad and it said the hours were flexible. I would like a job working outdoors, too.
NUTHALL: Do you have any experience in landscaping?
DANIEL: Well, sometimes I get a little extra money by mowing lawns and
weeding peoples gardens at weekends.
NUTHALL: Well thats a good start. The work is hard, however, and we need fit people. It takes time to get used to it. Is your health good?
DANIEL: Very good. I keep fit by working out every day and jogging every
morning.
NUTHALL: Good. Do you get along well with people?
DANIEL: Yes, I do.
HUTHALL: Our working hours are flexible but you must work at least 30 hours a week after signing on with us.
DANIEL: Yes, thats all right with me. Can I get any time off in the week, you said the hours were flexible?
NUTHALL: Yes, you can. But you should let us know at least two days ahead of time so we can find someone to replace you. Do you have any more questions?
DANIEL: No, thats all, thanks.
NUTHALL: Well, thank you for coming in, Mr Rangel. We will get in touch with you soon. Good-bye.

Idiomatic uses of Get

The following expressions from the previous job interview contain the verb get. However, in these expressions the meaning of the verb get cannot be inferred in isolation from the rest of the phrases because they are idiomatic expressions. Idiomatic expressions are sentences with special meaning. This meaning does not come from each word in particular, but from the combination of words, the intent of the speaker and the use of language it self.

To get used to something: a job, a new place, a new school
got used to living in the United States
To get along with someone, people, customers
She gets along with her students and coworkers
To get time off
I want to take some time off from work and visit my friends in California

To get in touch with someone
They say they will get in touch with me in two weeks. I really hope they call me!

1.  Greet somebody:   Good Morning. Nice to meet you.
2.  Respond to the greeting: Good morning, I am also happy to meet you

3.  Offer someone a seat:continue to take a seat, please
4.  Ask someone about previous experience: how has your experience gone?
5.  Enquire about someones health:how have you felt lately?

6.  Ask for free time from a job:with your permission, I allow myself to request a few minutes to take an active pause
7.  Give permission for this:  Of course, go ahead!
8.  Ask about more questions:  Do you want to tell me about the work experiences you have had so far? Do you think that all this experience in your personal cycle will serve you?
9.  Respond negatively: of course not, I just have to do what I believe is right
10. Thank a person for visiting you: Thank you very much for having a few minutes of attention to me, I am grateful and I hope to talk with you again. bye

Gerunds after Prepositions

This is one of the few rules in English with no exceptions:
After a preposition, if we use a verb, it is always a gerund. It is impossible to use an infinitive or any other verb form after a preposition. Lets look at the following examples from the reading:
Preposition

I keep fit
by
working out every day
 I make some extra money
by

Here are other gerunds after prepositions:
